Central Slovenia
Central Slovenia is the meeting point of the Alpine world and karst. In addition to the capital city Ljubljana there are a number of natural and cultural attractions such as the Ljubljana Marshes, Velika Planina, Polhov Gradec and Posavje hills, caves, karst fields and tourist farms.
Velika Planina in the Kamnik Alps is the oldest herdsmen settlement in Europe with more than a hundred shepherds' huts. The forms of these are quite special and interesting.
In winter on Velika Planina there is a ski resort with 6 kilometers of slopes and it depends only on the amount of natural snow.
On the southern edge of Ljubljana you can find Ljubljana Marshes area of bogs and mires known for its prehistoric culture pile and rare animal and plant species. The surface of the Ljubljana Marshes represents 0.8% of all Slovenian territory (163 km²).
