Kostel is located on the southeastern border of Slovenia by the river Kolpa. Kostel area is heavily forested, particularly with leafy trees on typical karst plateau with numerous sinkholes and peaks. City Kostel was named after Castell castle, which was built on the conical hill above Kolpa. Kostel visitors can enjoy swimming in the clean and warm river Kolpa.
